Welcome to 222 Toastmasters Club (Club No. 3527450, Area 53, Division E, District 60)
The Mission of the Club
The mission of a Toastmasters club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth.
Toastmasters is a great way to improve your communication skills. Join Toastmasters to:
- lose your fear of public speaking
- develop presentation skills
- become a better listener
- learn skills to lead teams and conduct meetings
- become comfortable giving and receiving constructive evaluation
How Toastmasters Works
Members learn by speaking to groups and working with others in a supportive environment. A typical club is made up of 20 to 30 people who meet once a week for an hour. Each meeting gives everyone an opportunity to practice
- conducting meetings
- giving impromptu speeches
- presenting prepared speeches
- offering constructive evaluation
Where and When?
The club meets on the 1st Thursday of each month at 222 Jarvis Street in the Red Rock room on the 4th floor. The remaining meetings are online every Thursday from 12 noon to 1 pm on Microsoft Teams. Guests are welcome at meetings. Please contact the VP Membership for more information.
An important message from one of our senior members, Francois van Heerden
How to Join
You are welcome to come and visit a meeting any time. We recommend that you contact the VP Membership to confirm the meeting schedule first.
Membership is open to Ontario Public Service (OPS) staff only.
How much does it cost?
Annual dues are $150. Toastmasters International is a non-profit organization, and all the funds collected are used to support the members, both locally at our club and through the world organization. If public speaking, making presentations, conducting meetings and giving evaluations are skills you need in your job, talk to your manager about including participation in 222 Jarvis Toastmasters in your OPS Learning Plan. This can be an inexpensive way for your manager to support you learning these important skills.
History
222 Jarvis Toastmasters Club was started in September 2013 and chartered on November 4, 2013 with 34 Charter Members.
The club was first started by Nicole Pinto-Lobo and sponsored by Kellie Scott.
Testimonials
From Leila Hosseini
How does it feel to be a speaker among professionals from around the globe for a premier technical education and world-class event? Toastmasters has helped me feel more confident in my journey as a speaker in this event.
Being a Toastmaster means how far I have come, the skills I have learned and developed and being able to celebrate my achievements.
Through Toastmasters, I've met amazing people who supported me in my journey, who gave me room to learn, to grow and enhance my speaking skills.
Toastmasters has also helped me in being able to communicate to my children and family more effectively with short, precise, and meaningful conversations.
Toastmasters developed my ability to convey my messages effectively!
